The current Terzi Castle has very ancient origins, dating back to the Early Middle Ages. It was originally a fortified Benedictine monastery, destroyed by Charlemagne's Frankish army in the 8th century. Rebuilt as a castle in the 9th/10th century, it belonged to the Mozzo family and then to the Suardo family, who extended their dominion over the entire valley, also owners of the Bianzano Castle. In the 15th century, following the imposition by the Venetian Republic of the demolition of every stronghold present in the territory of the Serenissima, the Suardo family, in order to avoid its destruction, made it a stately home. Finally, the property passed to the Terzi family, who sold it in 1930, by then completely abandoned and in ruins, to the British countess Winifred Terni de Gregory. From 1937 to 1945, she renovated the property as it appears today, including the gardens. Currently the entire complex is temporarily rented for important events or weddings.

The Castle with a square plan and a central courtyard was enlarged in volume and enriched with porticoes and loggias. Protected by two circles of walls raised compared to the original ones, it was surrounded by a second moat with access from the south and north via drawbridges. The entire complex thus became an inaccessible citadel, where brilliant court life was entertained, a destination for artists and illustrious guests. Much of the decorative and pictorial apparatus also dates back to the works commissioned by Colleoni, with a prevalence of frescoes in the French style, because the leader loved to surround himself with painters from Burgundy, linked to international Gothic.

Malpaga Castle presents itself with a majestic appearance in the countryside of the surrounding low Bergamo plain. This manor, due to the historical events and the remarkable architectural interest, is certainly a place of particular charm. Its relevance is linked above all to one of the most important figures of the fifteenth century: the leader Bartolomeo Colleoni, captain general of all the militias of the Serenissima Republic of Venice. Bartolomeo Colleoni bought it to transform it into his main residence, as it was located in a strategic position on the border between the territories of the Venetian Republic and the Duchy of Milan.
