Iconic cycleable asphalt ramp leading to the Castle

The Crespi d'Adda Workers' Village is an exceptionally well-preserved historic company town, built starting in 1877 by the Crespi family for the workers of their cotton mill. The town center is considered the finest example of a company town in Southern Europe for its conception of an "ideal city," where workers had all the necessary services, including single-family homes and social facilities. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that the houses are still inhabited. Due to its importance, it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995.

Legend has it that a ghost lives in the castle tower overlooking the place in the photo.

Don't miss it if you're in the Crespi area, just a stone's throw from Trezzo sull'Adda. It was once a textile factory, built with an innovative entrepreneurial concept. The workers' homes have now been privatized and inhabited. The internal alleys are open to the public. The factory itself can be visited with guides.

The hydroelectric power plant of Trezzo sull’Adda (MI), named after Alessandro Taccani, is a production plant and an iconic monument located on the banks of the Adda River. It was built in an eclectic style (a mixture of different styles) between the end of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth century by the architect Gaetano Moretti, designer of the nearby workers’ village of Crespi d’Adda, at the request of the industrialist Cristoforo Benigno Crespi to supply energy to his cotton mill. The power plant was built between 1903 and 1906 at the base of the rocky promontory that determines the bend of the river and on whose summit remain the ruins of the castle built in 1370 by Barnabò Visconti, on the remains of a previous Lombard structure. For this reason, at the request of the industrialist Crespi, the power plant was built using the local stone called “ceppo d’Adda” and taking up the verticalizing modules of the fortress above, so as to integrate perfectly with the surrounding environment. The interiors were also taken care of in a particular way and present a particular liberty style contaminated by neo-gothic.
