In the center of town, on the right bank of the Martesana Canal, stands an imposing waterwheel (popularly known as a rudun) said to have been designed by Leonardo da Vinci himself. Despite appearances, the wheel is not a mill, but a noria. Its function, in fact, was never to grind grain or power machinery, but rather to lift water from the canal to channel it into an irrigation system.

In reality, technically it is a “noria”: its function has never been to grind cereals or move machinery, but rather to lift the water of the Naviglio to convey it into an irrigation system.

Large wheel on the bank of the Naviglio Martesana, popularly called "rudun", was built by Cardinal Federico Borromeo in 1618 to raise the water from the canal and bring it to the kitchens of the palace as well as irrigating the vegetable gardens and gardens of the villa.

HISTORICAL NOTE. The Aureolo Bridge is an ancient arch built with the aim of uniting Canonica d'Adda and Vaprio d'Adda, divided by the Adda river. In its history it was knocked down several times, not only by the river, but also by battles and wars. The Bridge was named in memory of the commander Aureolo who tried to defeat the imperial forces in the battle of 268 in this very territory. At the time the viaduct took on a certain importance as it allowed the connection between Bergamo and Milan, from Venice to the Via Emilia. In 1160 Federico Barbossa, while reaching Milan to besiege it, passed through Canonica and set fire to the castle and demolished the bridge. In 1211 the Municipality of Milan, thanks to the economic support of the Capitani d'Arzago family, decided to build it again. In the following years, traces of the Bridge were lost, so much so that it is stated that it did not exist at the time of Alessandro Manzoni. In fact, in The Betrothed the writer decided to have Renzo escape via the Cassano d'Adda viaduct or the Canonica barge or the ferry that was used when the Bridge was inaccessible and therefore destroyed. Traces of the reconstruction were found in 1817 when the Austrian government allocated 215,000 Italian lire to the investment. The structure had 6 stone pylons flanked by wooden beams: one of which broke immediately and took 40 years to repair. At that time, to travel on the viaduct you had to pay a toll at the administrative offices in Milan. The Bridge, however, was overwhelmed by a flood and damaged, it was repaired by inserting masonry arches set in the rubble of the previous construction. In 1868 a flood of the river destroyed it again. At this point it was evident that the construction technique used with the load-bearing pillars in the water was not suitable for the impetuosity of the Adda river. Around 1878 a Belgian company was commissioned to reconstruct the Bridge with a different structure: an iron truss supported by a single central stone pylon, but only ten years later a flood demolished it. In 1892 a bridge was designed with a metal arch supported by two large arches which was built a year later by the contracting company Fratelli Invitti e C. of Milan, but in 1955 it was demolished. After a history full of constructions and demolitions, the current bridge was finally inaugurated in 1957.
