Historic Gatehouse of Laufenbürg Castle Laufenbürg Castle is the ruin of a lowland castle near Wassertrüdingen, south of Cronheim. The functions of Lake Altmühl in Bavaria are diverse: It serves to regulate water management, as a temporary reservoir for the Danube-Main system, to raise the Altmühl's low water levels, and for flood protection. At the same time, it is an important destination for tourism and recreation, offering activities such as sailing, swimming, and cycling, as well as an important sanctuary for waterfowl, particularly the "Bird Island" in the north of the lake. The cycle path around the lake is largely separated from pedestrians. Almost 100% paved. There are three lake centers with numerous restaurants.

Excavations by the Imperial Limes Commission at the end of the 19th century uncovered this unusual structure at this site. It is located on a well-developed cycle path, such as the Limes Cycle Route. There is also a rest area with a bench and table under the shade of a tree.
