Castell'Arquato is located on the first hill of Piacenza and serves as the gateway to the Arda Valley. The village was founded around the 7th century AD; the first written records date back to that period. During the Middle Ages, the village was often the scene of clashes between Guelphs and Ghibellines and the center of disputes between the Scotti and Visconti families. In the modern era, it passed from the Visconti to the Sforza family, whose rule lasted until the 18th century, when the village became part of the Duchy of Parma and Piacenza. The village has retained a typically medieval appearance with many places of great interest.

A wonderful stop. Both the church and the baptistery were open, and we were able to enter for a visit. It's worth a detour if you're in the area.

Palazzo Grossi is a historic building located in the heart of Fiorenzuola d’Arda, at the corner of Via Garibaldi and Vicolo dei Templari. It is one of the most fascinating noble palaces in the municipality and is known for its charming façade with two large pointed arch windows that lighten the structure and give it a more modern appearance. Between the windows there is a medallion with a wreath and a noble coat of arms, probably of the Albertazzoni family, who had the palace built. The architectural style of Palazzo Grossi is between Lombard Gothic and Renaissance. From the windows on the upper floor there is an extraordinary view over the roofs of the surrounding houses and the Collegiata, or down to the street and the people walking along Via Garibaldi.

A church dedicated to Saints Cosma and Damiano in Castellana, a hamlet of Gropparello, is already documented in pastoral visits of the 16th century. The current building was built in 1937 in neo-medieval style, designed by the Piacenza engineer Francesco De Benedetti. Elements of Gothic and Romanesque style are used in the exposed brick gabled façade. The bell tower stands alone on the right of the apse. With a square plan, exposed stone on three orders, it has a bell tower open on all four sides with round arches. The cell is covered with a cone-shaped terracotta roof. The interior of the church of Santi Cosma e Damiano in Castellana is divided into three naves; the marble altar and the wooden crucifix are interesting
