Located in the heart of Romagna, on the slopes of the first hills of the Forlì Apennines... Bertinoro dominates a suggestive landscape whose view extends to the sea. ... In addition to the hospitality and the splendid panoramic view that can be enjoyed from the central Piazza della Libertà, hence the nickname "Balcony of Romagna", the town is a typical example of a medieval citadel full of walls, towers and ancient houses , also known as the "City of Wine". In fact, legend has it that Galla Placidia, daughter of Emperor Theodosius, passing through these places, tasted a wine served in a humble cup and said: "you are not worthy of such a rough cup, O wine, but of drinking it in gold" , hence the name of the city. ... From the top of Mount Cesubeo, the thousand-year-old Rocca dominates the citadel, a building dating back to the 10th century, where the emperor Federico Barbarossa stayed in 1177 with his court and his militias, then an episcopal seat from 1584. ... Today the Rocca also houses the University Residential Center of the Alma Mater Studiorum of Bologna and the Interreligious Museum. ... The enchanting medieval village boasts another characteristic, that of being considered the 'City of Hospitality' par excellence thanks to the tradition of the Twelve Ringed Column. Each ring corresponds to one of the twelve families once appointed to host the stranger who, upon arriving, tied his horse there. The tradition is still commemorated on the first Sunday of September. In 1603 in Casticciano, along the road that connected Bertinoro to Meldola, by the will of Gaspare Sirri known as “Il Villa”, a small cell was restored and inside it was placed a painting by Mastro Bentivoglio di Bertinoro depicting the Madonna. According to the chronicles of the time, the news spread quite quickly that by praying this image graces were obtained. On 2 July 1612, the day of the Feast of the Visitation, Donna Agnese, daughter of Giovanni Maria delle Tombe di Meldola, accompanied by her brother, went to the cell in order to ask for the grace to be able to regain sight from the eye that had become blind due to a disease. According to the documents of the time, following this prayer Donna Agnese regained her sight. The fact, examined by the Church, was recognized as a miracle. Consequently, not far from the place where the cell originally stood, it was decided to erect a church in honor of the miraculous image. The church, built in just 7 years, was inaugurated by the bishop on 3 August 1613 and inside was placed the painting of the Madonna delle Grazie, carried with a solemn procession from the Cathedral of Bertinoro, where it had been temporarily placed. The church was consecrated as a sanctuary on 4 August 1709 by the Bishop of the diocese of Bertinoro, Mons. Missiroli. (Source: https://www.visitbertinoro.it/it/poi/santuario-di-casticciano/)

Parish Church of San Donato di Polenta The construction of the parish church dates back to the eighth century, by the Lombards. ... The Pieve has undergone several restorations, the most famous being the one promoted in 1897 by Giosuè Carducci, who on that occasion wrote the Ode to the Church of Polenta in which he suggests that Dante Alighieri prayed in this pieve during his exile and that it was hosted right here by the Polentani lords of Ravenna, while Francesca tempered "her burning eyes with rice". Its churchyard is also interesting, where a herm dedicated to Giosuè Carducci stands out - inaugurated in 1932 twenty-five years after the poet's death - and the coats of arms of the municipalities that participated in the traditional Carducciano Raduno, an event held annually together with cycles of Dantesque readings.
