Regarding the patronage of this church, the cathedral in Vasto, here are a few brief thoughts from Mario Amico: "In the New Testament, [Saint Joseph] is mentioned in only two Gospels, a total of just fifteen times. Not a word of his is recorded. He doesn't speak, but he acts upon his dreams. That, I call true trust in God. Trusting God isn't always easy, especially in today's world. But perhaps (...) it's a good opportunity to engage with it. Like Saint Joseph: silence, listening, trusting, and then acting. It sounds so simple, but it requires practice. His story shows us that he could trust in God's promise and knew that God would not abandon him, and therefore not us either. That is precisely why he became the patron saint of the entire Church. Once a medieval church dedicated to Saint Margaret, it retains its 14th-century façade. It became a cathedral in 1853 and was dedicated to Saint Joseph in 1808.

In the center of the square you will find the imposing and majestic monument dedicated to the illustrious fellow citizen Gabriele Rossetti, poet and patriot exiled in Great Britain who escaped the death sentence for his participation in the Carbonari uprisings of 1820/1821.

It features the typical characteristics of the gardens and cloisters that were common in the Neapolitan area, especially during the Baroque period: squares of grass divided by brick-paved paths, a central well, fruit trees and ornamental plants with aromatic essences, and columns—all originally plastered—that supported a pergola on wooden crosspieces. A restoration project has brought to light the late eighteenth-century layout of the garden, which can be reconstructed thanks to period documents and photographic evidence from the early 1900s.

It has been designated as a Jubilee church for the Holy Year 2025. This means that it will be one of the places where one can obtain the Jubilee indulgence by visiting it and performing certain acts of devotion.

The Cathedral of San Giuseppe in Vasto is a fine example of a Gothic church. The façade features a magnificent circular rose window, along with a beautiful pointed portal. It was built in Romanesque style in the 13th century. The interior of the church has three naves, renovated in 1853 in Neo-Gothic style.
