The private Zötler brewery has a history spanning centuries and is considered one of the oldest breweries in the world. A document documents the purchase of a piece of land by the innkeeper Conrat Bach. Since a tavern owner in the Middle Ages almost always brewed his own beer, it is reasonable to assume that he was the first brewer in Rettenberg and that this brewery later became today's Zötler brewery.
