Alberobello is a small town in the province of Bari in the Puglia region of Italy. The town has a population of around 11,000 and is situated on two hills that were once separated by a river. While the original, old town is located on the western hill, the modern, new town has been built on the eastern peak.

The Church of Santa Maria di Costantinopoli in Cisternino, also known as Sant’Anna, stands outside the city on the road to Martina Franca and following the Bourbon decree of 1840 was intended to house the city cemetery. The façade is very simple, while the churchyard is enclosed by a wall of great scenic effect with the entire complex that is enveloped in a twilight and mysterious atmosphere.
