On a granite boulder brought from the Bohemian Forest sits the life-size figure of the poet, his right hand in his lap, his left arm resting on the rocky seat, his coat and hat beside him. The monument was commissioned by the Bohemian Forest Association in 1894 and was intended to be placed on the Danube embankment. Since the donations received were insufficient for a full-length figure, the Ministry of Education agreed to cover the remaining costs and wished to commission the work itself. Instead of the bustling Danube embankment, the quieter promenade was chosen, which the donor had overlooked from his office in the Governor's Palace. The monument committee selected the second-prize-winning design by Hans Rathausky. The bronze figure was cast in 1902, and the unveiling took place on May 24, 1902.

Each bridge has its own Nepomuk statue.
