The church of Saints Luca and Giuliano, also known as Chiesa Diruta, was an important place of worship in Grottole, in the province of Matera. Built starting in 1509, the church quickly became the religious hub of the local community. However, fate reserved for it an irreparable collapse due to an earthquake, leading to its definitive abandonment. Despite the challenges of time, its ancient splendor endures in the remains that today we call the Ruined Church. This ruin, testimony to the past and its historical and artistic value, is the subject of efforts in the 21st century for its maintenance and partial recovery. A place that continues to inspire residents and visitors alike, offering an inspiring glimpse into the history and resilience of this community.
