A striking point in town

The Grota di San Ciarico offers a fantastic experience, even if the climb to Buonvicino is demanding. It is a magical cave, away from everything, which conveys a deep feeling of inner peace.

Arrived at the gates of Lungro, instead of going up the ramp on the left with indications for the cycle path in the direction of Acquaformosa, it is better to proceed towards the center of the town and continue on the main road; in this way you avoid that very hard uphill stretch which shortens by very little. Better to preserve strength in view of other asperities.

Lungro is a town of Arbëreshe tradition, seat of the Byzantine Eparchy which welcomes all the Albanian communities of Italy under its wing.

Scalea is a medieval village located on a terraced hill a few minutes from the sea. Its historic center is a labyrinth of stairways, alleys, arches and ancient buildings, where it is possible to visit the Norman Castle, the Basilian churches with Byzantine frescoes, the Palazzo dei Principi Spinelli and the Talao Tower, symbol of the city.

Lungro is a municipality at an altitude of 600 meters in the Pollino National Park. It is one of the main centers of the Arbëreshë community of Albanian origin, which preserves the Greek-Byzantine language, customs and religious rite.
