Passers-by walking from the dunes (Dunas Corralejo) towards the town of Corralejo are confronted with a truly surreal sight - a fairytale house in an enchanted garden, surrounded by a colorful fence full of curiosities: sculptures, bas-reliefs, paintings, ornaments, installations, chapels and even appeals to passers-by. A brick-red tower in the center of the house towers over the lush exotic vegetation that oozes out from behind the colorful, ornate wall. The building is so deeply embedded in the tropical greenery that it is almost invisible from the street. The villa belongs to Spanish architect and multidisciplinary artist Carlos Calderón Yruegas. He designed it for himself, contrary to the principles he applies daily in his work as an architect. Carlos Calderón Yruegas is a follower of minimalism in architecture. The buildings I design for others are simple, functional, energy efficient and easy to maintain. The author himself says that his own house is not practical and requires a lot of work. Maintaining order is a real challenge. There are many objects in the villa that need to be dusted at least now and then. Plants, of which there are also plenty, require constant care. Carlos Calderón Yruegas has lived in Villa Tabaiba for 30 years. The house is still growing. It is like a living organism that needs artistic nourishment to function properly. The house is constantly being furnished with works of art and green plants. The architect claims that Villa Tabaiba is a work that has no end. He enjoys creating it and, as he says, he enjoys engaging with his art on a daily basis.

A really nice isolated mountain/hill. Summiting at 312 metres, it not quite an Everest, but starting from sea level allows a good elevation gain. Getting near the mountain by public transport is tricky, A hike all the way from Corralejo is doable (as I did), but that's a long trip.

Great stretch of route through the dunes and past the sandy beaches and often with a tailwind in a north-south direction.

Check out the wind vibes – we're facing a headwind that's putting the brakes on our speed. Make sure you're packing enough H2O because there are stretches for kilometers with absolutely nada. Stay hydrated, my friend! 🌬️💦

Beautiful Natural Park with dunes. Be very careful on windy days as it can be dangerous with traffic and with a road bike. The road becomes sandy and the bike can become difficult to control.

The really great sandy beach that stretches over several kilometers and offers many hidden areas, but also well-visited public beaches that are monitored by current swimmers.

Montaña Roja (312 m) is located on the southern limit of the Corralejo Natural Park (of the dunes) and very close to the Holandés Park and El Jablito. Its crater is 460 meters wide and is open to the north. From the top you will have wonderful views of the dunes of Corralejo. Its name comes from the different shades of red that the mountain presents.
