The beach of Puerto Lajas is mainly visited by locals. During the day in summer, many small fishing boats are said to anchor off the beach.

The coastal settlement was originally founded under the name Puerto de La Oliva and was intended to be developed into a large holiday resort. This plan was never put into practice - probably due to the impassable coast. Today there are a few small holiday homes in the town and on the coast, about 500 metres away. A large part of the local population is made up of locals.
