Originally a two room foresters house Gleann Dubh-Lighe is now managed by the Bothy Association. It burnt down in 2012 but has been re-built and the pine wood panels and cosy fire are nicer than the original. If you plan to stay here, please bring wood and make sure you leave it in better condition than when you arrived. It's also good practise to pay for membership of the MBA to help fund the upkeep.

Streap is an awesome mountain but at 909 m it's just 5 m short of Munro classification. It's a great target for a run from Glenfinnian and the views from the summit are stunning. Brilliant ridgeline running.

Sgùrr nan Coireachan is one of the pair of Munros north of Glenfinnian. It stands at 956 m and offers brilliant wild views of the surrounding mountains and lochs. Normally run as a loop from the south, taking in the other Munro Sgùrr Thuilm and the great ridge between them.

Built in 1901, the Glenfinnan Viaduct is probably most famous for its use in the Harry Potter Movie series. It is an impressive piece of engineering, made up of 21 large arches. Trains cross it regularly, connecting Fort William to Mallaig. For those keen to spot an iconic steam train crossing it a quick internet search will normally provide the most recent timetable.

Glenfinnan is without doubt one of the most striking and beautiful places on Earth . Now including the iconic ‘Harry Potter Viaduct’ you’d think it couldn’t get any better . Rent accommodation and use as a base and you will not be disappointed as it gets much better !

Sgurr Thuilm is a 963m Munro mountain in the Scottish Highlands. We climbed this Munro after Sgurr nan Coireachan and returned following the River Finnan back to Glenfinnan one hot summers day. I'd be lying if I said I didn't have a cheeky dip in the river to cool off.

Sgurr nan Coireachan is a 956m Munro mountain in the Scottish Highlands. The easiest approach to this Munro is to cross under the famous 'Harry Potter' railway viaduct at Glenfinnan (by pure fluke we were lucky to enjoy the steam train passing as we walked through). The ridge walking in this area is superb. Not technically challenging but thoroughly enjoyable. Views to Knoydart Munros are utterly outstanding.

The Jacobite steam train runs from 09 April to 26 October, Monday through Friday at 10:55 am and 3:00 pm via the viaduct.
