St. Andrew's Parish Church The church was rebuilt after the demolition of the old church and consecrated on October 12, 1924. Only the baroque tower, dating from 1736 to 1738, survived. The church interior is built in the neo-baroque style. The high altar features the figure of the church's patron saint, Saint Andrew, flanked by figures of Saint James (right) and Saint Jude Thaddeus (left). The side altars are dedicated to Mary and Child on the left and to the Sacred Heart of Jesus on the right. The ceiling paintings in the choir depict the calling of Saint Andrew the Apostle and the first apostles at the Sea of Galilee. The dome depicts the martyrdom, and the nave depicts the Assumption of Saint Andrew into Heaven. The dome also depicts the four cardinal virtues of courage, prudence, justice, and temperance. All paintings are by the Parsberg painter Sigmund Spitzer. Next to the high altar are two gravestones. On the left is that of the church's original builder, Knight Hans von Parsberg, and on the right is that of Knight Haug von Parsberg. He was lord of the castle of Parsberg and also mayor of Nuremberg, Bamberg, and Würzburg. The baptismal font, which stands in the chancel, is the most valuable piece, not only from an art-historical but also a theological point of view. The four pilasters in the nave are decorated with figures of St. Anthony, St. Brother Conrad, St. Francis, and St. Theresa. On the right side of the aisle, on the side wall, is the Archangel Raphael with Tobias. In the chancel is a depiction of Joseph with the infant Jesus, flanked by small figures of the four evangelists: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. In the side aisle of the chancel is a depiction of the Holy Family, and in the side niche further back is a Pieta. The Stations of the Cross paintings date from the 19th century, as do the two large figures on the wall cross in the left side aisle. Also noteworthy are the beautifully carved sashes, which were also present in the previous church. The church organ has 2,226 pipes and dates from 1993. The design of the windows also blends beautifully with the facade, a key feature of all churches designed by the Regensburg architect Heinrich Haubenrisser. A very impressive missionary cross is located on the exterior of the church. Source: www.pfarrgemeinde-parsberg.de
