Overall, this is a wonderful, easy bike tour. Highlights include the beautiful, unspoiled Laber Valley, the rock cellars along the trail, and the Rose Cemetery in Dietkirchen.

Kastl is THE hub and key point for cyclists travelling between the districts of Neumarkt and Amberg Sulzbach. The market town not only separates the upper reaches of the Lauterach from the middle river valley, it also offers cyclists connections in all directions. And on top of that, a wide range of restaurants are served here.

Very nice facility, unfortunately without shade but with plenty of information about the region.

The town hall, which the penultimate Benedictine abbot, Johannes Menger, had built in 1552 at the monastery's expense, is a building that has been modified many times. In 1890 it was given a second floor and later a stepped gable, which is crowned by a graceful turret. A bell used to hang in this tower, which reminded citizens of their most important duty on election days. Above the main entrance to the town hall is a sandstone relief with the coats of arms of the Electorate of the Palatinate and the Kastl Abbey. To the left of the entrance there used to be a pillory stone with a collar above it that protruded from the wall. The condemned were locked in this. Here the sinners who had committed a crime with their blasphemy, with thieving hands or in some other way had to stand in the pillory for several hours. The stone is still preserved, the collar was removed in the 1950s. To the right of the entrance the market fountain provided fresh water for the residents of the market square. It was a popular meeting place and a source of the most important news. Until 1963, the town hall housed three elementary school classrooms. Here you can find a large money chest with lots of iron fittings (unfortunately without gold ducats). The special feature of the cycle and hiking trail in the valley of the Black Laber are the five artistically designed rest pavilions, which invite you to take a break at several locations from different perspectives of the main theme "River - Valley of the Black Laber" - all built with oak and granite. In his design concept, artist Willi Leo Hengge from Nittendorf creatively implemented the typical themes that characterize the valley of the Black Laber and the respective location in the pavilion design: The pavilion near Pilsach has the motto "Springs and streams on the European watershed", the pavilion near Oberweiling the theme "Moor life" and in Parsberg "Life on the river" is taken up.
