Once a fen, the landscape today was shaped by peat extraction. After the peat was removed, the extraction pits filled with water again and either silted up or became wet meadows. Some areas are cultivated. Overall, a beautiful, expansive landscape has developed here.

Fire brigade comrades remembered their deceased colleagues here and created a place that is also ideal for a large group for a picnic.

The Oldenburger Graben is a channel in the Ostholstein district in Schleswig-Holstein that was created in the last Ice Age and is located at sea water level below sea level. The Oldenburger Graben is located in Ostholstein on the Wagrien peninsula. It runs from Weißenhäuser Strand through Oldenburg in Holstein to Dahme and thus from the Hohwacht Bay to the outer Lübeck Bay.
