The castle of the Counts of Hallermund was first mentioned around 1189, although they only owned a small dominion of 55km². They did not enjoy their castle for long, Ludolf and Wilbrand pledged it to the bishop of Hildesheim. Later it became the property of the Guelphs, was temporarily owned by the Count of Spiegelberg and was part of all sorts of disputes, feuds and robberies. There is also a restaurant that belongs to the bison enclosure, which can also be used without entering from a side entrance. We took our lunch break there today.

On 90 hectares of forest and park area, around 100 wild species await the visitor in the midst of unspoilt nature, most of which are kept quite naturally in spacious enclosures. In addition to the several herds of bison, the wolves are particularly exciting, as are the birds of prey, each with two daily demonstrations. The circular route through the park is approx. 3.5 km long. You should plan at least half a day to see everything in peace. This is a very nice wildlife park where you can spend your time very interesting and informative. Very instructive!

A castle is said to have stood here for a short time. The ascent is very steep and very slippery with a little moisture. We think the climb is not worth it as there is nothing to see at the top.

Exciting for us: The stones for the construction of the New Town Hall in Hanover come from this former quarry.
