Beautiful and well maintained rest area

Very nice rest area at the hut

The “Uli-Schmidt-Hütte” at Hellsee is the clubhouse of NaturFreunde OG Biesenthal-Hellmühle e.V., founded in 1994 by NaturFreund Ulrich Schmidt, after whom it was named. The hut and rest area were sold by the previous owner in 2001 and bought by the club. The log cabin at the Hellmühle hiking rest area was designed as a nature education room for young and old and is popular with schools, kindergartens, hiking groups and guests interested in nature.

Beautiful and very well-kept rest area near the old Hellmühle. In the summer unfortunately absolutely infested with mosquitoes.

You should go all the way around. It is also nice to take the path with a section along the Hellmühler river.

This is where the local hunter sits. Unfortunately, we didn't have any cold packs, otherwise I would go straight to the Wildhack here.

The Hellmühle was first mentioned in a document as early as 1347, when Margrave Ludwig transferred ownership of the mill and mill moat, which was then owned by Arnold von Bredow, to the Bernau provost. In 1539, with the relocation of the Bernau Priory to Berlin, initiated by Elector Joachim II, the Hellmühle came into the hands of the Cölln Cathedral Chapter. The mill became deserted during the Thirty Years' War, but was later put back into operation. Only in the 1920s did mill operations finally cease. Until 1945, the mill complex belonged to the castle and estate of Lanke. In the GDR, the Hellmühle was then appropriated to the state-owned Gut Lanke. The building served as a country school home from 1950 and later as a youth hostel. The building has been empty since 1989. It is now privately owned.
