It's also called a mosque. And that's what it looks like.

It's pretty weird, what elaborate "claddings" one used to come up with for functional buildings: A pump house in the Moorish style 😅 Today, however, the building is an absolute eye-catcher! https://www.spsg.de/schloesser-gaerten/objekt/dampfmaschinenhaus-moschee/

The steam engine house was built between 1843 and 1845 by Rudolf Gotttreu according to plans by Ludwig Persius for the irrigation systems in Babelsberg Park. The machine house is a two-storey, neo-Gothic brick building in the castle style with a crenellated tower (the chimney) and forge. In addition, a cavalier room was set up inside. Steam Engine House for Sanssouci The former steam engine house for Sanssouci – also called the "pump house" or "mosque" – is located in Potsdam on the Neustadt Havel Bay. It was built at the request of King Frederick William IV between 1841 and 1843 under the direction of Ludwig Persius to operate the Great Fountain in front of Sanssouci Palace. It is one of Germany's historic landmarks of engineering and represents an outstanding example of Orientalist architecture. The original name "Rotunda" - building with a round floor plan - was quickly replaced by the current one. This is based on the fact that the Little Curiosity is only a few meters further to the east and here as well as there the castle residents watched the traffic on the country road from Potsdam to Berlin. However, since the rotunda was visible, Prince Carl liked to stay here on his birthdays and, for the sake of simplicity, received congratulations from the citizens here. https://www.potsdam-wiki.de/index.php?title=Gro%C3%9Fe_Neugierde

The rotunda, which is so characteristic of Königstrasse and the view from Glienicke Bridge, has an unusual history. Completed in 1837, it was removed and rebuilt between 1905 and 1907 as part of the construction of the new Glienicke Bridge. In 1938, this architectural detail was removed and relocated again as a result of the road expansion.

For the former boiler and machine rooms, only simple workshop-like buildings were needed. But the numerous battlements, towers, turrets and bay windows make the steam engine house look like an additional castle in Babelsberg Park. It was created in 1843-1845 as part of the construction of the park's irrigation system.

The iron truss bridge built in 1906-1907 not only connects Potsdam and Berlin. It also offers beautiful views of the Havel landscape with Jungfernsee (to the north of the bridge) and Glienicker Lake (to the south). Of course, the bridge became known as an agent exchange station during the division of Germany.

The Great Curiosity is a rotunda built as a tea pavilion with a view of the Glienicker Bridge, the Jungfernsee and the Berlin suburbs of Potsdam. The Little Curiosity built by Schinkel in 1826 and the later Great Curiosity gave their names to the type of curiosity, a pavilion or garden house from which you could see everything that was going on outside, but in the case of the Little Curiosity itself remained as hidden as possible.
