Always beautiful

The Alster fountain is a large fountain on the Inner Alster in Hamburg. Carlheinz Hollmann had the idea for the fountain, which is on average 60 meters high, when he saw the fountain on Lake Geneva (the Jet d'eau) from an airplane in 1986. This is located in downtown Geneva in an urban setting very similar to Hamburg's Inner Alster and is also considered a landmark of the city. The Jet d'eau has existed since 1885 and, at 140 meters, is more than twice as high as the Alster fountain. Hollmann imagined how such a fountain would also beautify Hamburg's Alster lake and suggested his idea to the Senator for Construction Eugen Wagner, who referred him to Chief Building Director Egbert Kossak. In the building authority in front of the large city model of Hamburg, he explained his idea and ultimately convinced the pipe-smoking Senator by using a curved pipe cleaner as a model for the fountain. Companies such as Blohm + Voss were quickly found as sponsors and the Alster fountain has been spraying water since April 18, 1987 at 12 noon. However, the height is limited by the windy weather in Hamburg. The fountain was not initially met with great enthusiasm by the population, as the Inner Alster was always the "simple landmark of Hamburg". Over time, however, it became part of it.

the Jungfernstieg is the promenade along the Binnenalster. Located on the southern bank of the Hamburg Alster. The historic promenade is the focal point in the center of the Hanseatic city.

Very easy to reach on foot from the main station

The Inner Alster is the urban part of the Alster and is smaller than the Outer Alster. But the views are almost as beautiful. It's just different.
