The hydroelectric power station in Wendefurth is Saxony-Anhalt's only pumped storage power station. It was built between 1960 and 1967 to generate electricity. The two 383-meter-long pipes transport the pumped water to the neighboring Wendefurth pumped storage reservoir. It is maintained by Vattenfall.
