A really beautiful dam with many impressive views 😊. You can easily walk around the dam on the dam wall, although you will have to climb a few meters in altitude.

The Schmalwasser Dam is also known as the Tambacher Meer and was built between 1988 and 1993.

This tour around the Schmalwassertalsperre starts at the Eisbrunnenquelle in the Dietharzer Grund extended Oberhofer Straße. Behind the barrier, the path leads uphill for about 900 m. Passing the dam keeper's house you reach the Stummelberg rest area on the right with a refuge and a view of the dam and Inselsberg. 3 km further you come to a crossroads with a map of the area for orientation. We continue to use the asphalt road and after a short while we reach the Meister-Eckhart-Blick rest area. After another 15 minutes downhill we arrive at the Röllchen refuge. If you want, you can take a break here or take a detour into the Röllchen Gorge. We go back to the inlet of the dam, keeping to the right and following the gravel road. The small Walsbachtal comes into view after about 3.5 km, and after another 2 km the “Salweidewand” refuge comes into view. From here you have a wonderful view of the dam and the dam wall.
