Hamerling war Antisemit.

The Herrensee is surrounded by a 4.5 km long marked circular path that is only intended for pedestrians. Even in winter the path is easy to walk on. For Robert Hamerling, who was born in Kirchberg am Walde in 1830, the Litschau school teacher Karl Zimmel had this monument erected in 1915. The writer and poet Hamerling was one of the most widely read German-speaking authors of his time. He died in Graz in 1889.

This cross commemorates Ferdinand Blach, who died in an accident here at Herrensee on August 3, 2003.
