The village of Gerwigshain was located approximately 3 km northwest of Mengsberg, on the road to Hatzbach (locally known as Butterweg), near the site of a deserted church, in the headwaters of a stream flowing towards Mengsberg. The field name appears in various forms: 1555 "Wüstung Gerwichshain" (deserted village of Gerwigshain), 1576 "Gerbisheim", around 1614 "Wüste Gerwigshain" (deserted village of Gerwigshain), 1708/10 "Wüste Kirche" (deserted church). From this spot, you'll enjoy a magnificent view of a large part of the Bürgerpark, with benches inviting you to linger and enjoy the view. The Junker-Hansen Tower can be seen in the background.

Usually, abandoned villages consist of a sign and nothing else. The abandoned village of Gerwigshain has church remains and a spring, which helps to stimulate the imagination. Like the Glockenborn, I imagine a swampy spring hole in the middle of the forest in which a church bell could be sunk.
