Basdorf is the ultimate hub in the Heidekrautbahn network. Coming from the north, the two branches from Wensickendorf and Groß Schönebeck meet here. From the south, the historic main line from Berlin-Wihelmsruh and the bypass line from Berlin-Karow join the line. From Basdorf, trains will also run via the reactivated main line to Berlin-Wihelmsruh. In addition to the new line, the other sections will also be made fit for the future. This primarily includes the planned extension of existing platforms to a usable length of 140 meters. Directly adjacent to Basdorf station is the maintenance workshop of the Niederbarnimer Eisenbahn (NEB). The Heidekrautbahn Museum, which is well worth a visit, is also located there. The hydrogen filling station is a brand new addition to the company premises. It can be used to refuel the new hydrogen trains, which have been in service since the end of 2024. By using green electricity from a regional wind farm, the hydrogen used is green, and the trains make a significant contribution to CO₂ reduction. Furthermore, their electric motors make them significantly quieter and more powerful than the previously used diesel railcars. The new vehicles are part of the overall Heidekrautbahn Hydrogen Rail project: https://wasserstoffschiene-heidekrautbahn.de/projekt. The old Schildow train station is located in the center of the village of Schildow. As part of the planned reactivation of the Heidekrautbahn (Heather Railway) line, it will be regularly serviced along its original route as part of the i2030 project (https://www.i2030.de/). Two platform edges with a usable length of 140 meters and barrier-free access are planned. As in its original state, the station will have two tracks, which is a prerequisite for the passing of two trains traveling in opposite directions. The interlocking technology will also need to be upgraded to accommodate train crossings. A total of three additional electronic interlocking stations (ESTW) are planned along the line, one of which will be located in the new Schildow train station. The café is very cozy and offers plenty of peace and quiet for relaxation. The train station is currently about 250 meters away, but in the next few years, the old main line will be reopened and resume regular service. It will then be much faster to get to Berlin, even without changing trains in Karow. Whether the idyllic atmosphere of the old station with its operating café will be preserved is questionable. However, the new station will probably be built diagonally across the street, on the wild meadow and at the edge of the forest, so to speak.
