Great bothy - you'll find it in the middle of the house complex, it's entrance is only approachable from the Eastern side of the building.

Don't expect a palace, but this 'Royal Bothy' on Balmoral Estate remains one of the most beautiful bothies I know. In an outbuilding of the royal lodge just outside, you'll find several doors. The last door, somewhat hidden, is the correct one. Inside, you'll find a cozy bothy with everything you need: bunk beds, a table and chairs, and a stove for warmth. On the first floor, you can sleep on the wooden floor. Be aware that logging is prohibited around the bothy! The location is also fantastic, with beautiful views over Loch Muick, and the small wooded area has a cozy and inviting feel. A stream with fresh water also flows through it. Highly recommended to stay here.

Lochnagar is an impressive hill. If going to the White Mounth beyond do not underestimate the walk back out.

Awesome scenery. Just visit.

Wooden 'bridges' over the rocks here maintain the nice trackway.

Admittingly, I didn't see a bench. That said, the location is highly scenic and a great place to take a break and maybe paddle or swim. Midges permitting that is.

Stunning 7.75 mile hike round Loch Muick on Monday. One side is a great track with stunning views of the loch and mountains, the colours of the flowering Heather was fabulous. Nice cuppa at lochside opposite the lodge. Track then takes you through lovely woods. Bottom of Loch track takes you over stepping stones to other side which was a harder walk because of stones and uneven ground. Walking poles recommended for this side. Great views across the Loch to the lodge and part views of lochnagar. Silly me stopped for a cuppa at rangers hut and got eaten alive by midgies! It took us 4 hours 10 minutes including a 15 minute lunch break.

On your way along the shore of Lock Muick you will cross Allt An Dearg that comes down from the mountains and flows into the loch.

A cool spot for a nice picture at the shore of Loch Muick. If the weather is bad, you might also pitch your tent inside the open boat house.

To find the entrance to the bothy is a little tricky. It is located between the buildings. Follow the dark(er) alley at the east side of the main building to the only accessible part of the mansion. The bothy offers a room with a large table and two bunkbeds at the ground floor and space for around four to five people in the attic. There is a fireplace and you might find some (wet) wood and saws. The toilet is a few feet away in the adjacent building. It is primitive with a hole in the ground and two buckets to flush. The flowing stream next to the bothy is a decent water source.

The bothy is not in the lodge but rather in an outbuilding around the back. Functional but not the nicest of bothies. However, the location together with some free accommodation is very good.

Interesting point along the shoreline, makes a good place to take a photo from.

Incredible mountain bike single track, extremely challenging due to the narrow nature of the trail, exposure and technical aspects.

The bothie is round the back of the grand old victorian house. Very basic.

A good loch walk, takes a couple hours.

The journey is dragging and encouraging. One of the few places in Scotland that wasn't crowded. You could count the people on site. One half is a bit demanding due to the scree (concentration, step resistance), the other half is a bit more chilled, but you have a little less view of the lake. You have to cross the lake about halfway. To do this, you have to walk very narrow stands.

Possibly one of the strangest bothies going, if only for being an out-house on the Queen’s holiday home! Glas-Allt-Shiel is an open bothy—meaning a basic shelter, left unlocked and available for anyone to use free of charge—and boasts a picturesque location. The entrance is by the fifth door along, just out of sight in the darkness of the passage.
