For nearly a thousand years, monks lived in Seligenstadt Abbey according to the Benedictine rules. Today, with its venerable buildings and beautiful garden, the abbey presents itself as a complete Baroque ensemble and offers an impressive glimpse into monastic life in the 17th and 18th centuries. A visit to the former Benedictine Abbey of Seligenstadt offers a vivid insight into monastic life according to the Rule of St. Benedict of Nursia (c. 480-547 AD). Chapter 66 of the 73 chapters states: "The monastery should, if possible, be arranged in such a way that everything necessary—namely, water, mill, and garden—is within the monastery walls and that the various crafts can be practiced there. In this way, the monks do not have to wander outside the walls, which is not at all good for them." The Benedictine abbey, founded in 828 by Einhard, advisor to Charlemagne, functioned as a town within a town until its dissolution in 1803.

The Einhard Basilica (officially St. Marcellinus and St. Peter) in Seligenstadt is one of the most important buildings from the Carolingian period in Germany. It was built around 830 by Einhard, the biographer of Charlemagne, to house the relics of Saints Marcellinus and St. Peter. The entrance and parking spaces are wheelchair accessible.

Kleinostheim has a centuries-old fishing tradition, as the sign of the local heritage and history association reveals.

Here in the small park by the Main River cycle path stands this old fishing boat with an information panel. Benches invite you to linger.
