The road surface is occasionally very impassable, and cycling on the A7 is definitely not recommended. It's a highway!

The mouth of the Río Fuengirola is a particularly beautiful spot to cycle and take stunning photos. As the river opens to the sea, a wide, bright panorama unfolds, with calm waters, Mediterranean light, and the imposing Sohail Castle in the background. The cycle paths run directly along the riverbank, offering unobstructed views of the estuary, which glows in warm colors, especially at sunrise and sunset. The combination of river, sea, nature, and the modern bridge creates an atmospheric backdrop, ideal for capturing evocative images.

Coastal Trail

This is what it must have looked like everywhere here in the past... relatively quiet and well-paved roads with few modern finca factory products and lots of old houses, gently rolling hills with a wide variety of options. Maybe even up to Alhaurín Golf Club?? if so, then almost certainly with gravel and rough concrete roads... unfortunately I didn't have time to try it.

Great view

Perched high above the coast, the castle offers breathtaking views of the Mediterranean. Its origins date back to the 10th century, when it was built by the Moors. Remodeled several times after the Christian conquest in the 15th century, the present-day walls and towers bear witness to its eventful history.

The castle, built under the Arab Umayyads, was situated at the mouth of the Fuengirola River. Its ruins lie south of the river, 38 meters above sea level. Sohail Castle was built in 956 by order of the eighth Emir and first Caliph of Córdoba, Abd ar-Rahman III, to strengthen coastal defenses, on the foundations of an older fortress of Phoenician or Roman origin. Sohail was captured on August 7, 1487, during the Reconquista, by the Christian troops of the Kingdom of Castile and León, twelve days before the capture of the provincial capital, Málaga. The castle was severely damaged in the fighting. Sohail Castle was built in 956 on the orders of the eighth Emir and first Caliph of Córdoba, Abd ar-Rahman III, to strengthen coastal defenses. Today, the restored fortress walls of Sohail Castle regularly host cultural events such as festivals, artistic performances and musical events, including the Noches del Castillo ("Castle Nights") with pop and rock concerts and the Fuengirola City Festival.
