Visiting Heidi, Maienfeld Have you always wanted to know how Heidi lived? Then you've come to the right place: Heidi Village in Maienfeld, the original setting of the world-famous Heidi story. This peaceful hamlet is home to the original Heidi House, the house furnished as it was in Heidi's time, Heidi's Alpine Hut, a replica of Alpöhi's loving home, and Johanna Spyri's Heidi World exhibition. Heidi's animals await you in the village, and the village shop, which sells souvenirs, features the smallest post office in Switzerland, complete with the Heidi Village special postmark. Eichenhaft Information Center, Maienfeld Oak grove above Maienfeld as a valuable natural and cultural heritage Promoting the oak tree Quite simply "Oaky"! In 2015, the proQuercus association, with the support of the Audemars Piguet Foundation, awarded the Oak 2200 Promotion Prize for the sixth time. The town of Maienfeld (GR) was recognized for its long-standing commitment to preserving and promoting the oak tree. It received the award for its pioneering communication and education project "Eichenhaft." In an original and contemporary way, the centuries-old oak grove above Maienfeld is presented to a broad audience as a valuable natural and cultural heritage. Authors: Patrick Bonfils (www.naturavali.com, naturavali@gmail.com) & Gion Willi (Zweckverband Falknis, 7304 Maienfeld).

The climb up here from Luzisteig on a forest road is often very steep (up to 24%), only manageable with very strong calves or a powerful engine. Once you reach the top, the effort is worth it!

On December 31, 1994, as the bells rang out the old year and ushered in the new year of 1995, a huge upheaval also took place in the Swiss Army. Corps, divisions, brigades, regiments, and battalions were abolished, and new ones were established. Among other things, Gr Br 12, commanded by Brigadier Fritz Meisser, was also disbanded. Meisser, along with his comrades, said to himself that everything that had existed before could disappear. So he founded the Graubünden Military History Foundation with the goal of preserving objects of military history and making them accessible to the public. This led to the creation of the museums Art Fort Crestawald near Sufers, Santa Maria Stelvio Umbrail, and the St. Luzisteig Museum.
