Old Bridge, nie too See!

This site provides a valuable, beautiful and tranquil open space in the middle of urban Bletchley. There is a pleasant circular walk around the lake and an adjoining meadow which has a slight hill for those wishing to walk to the far side. The surfaced footpath around the lake has one or two uneven places, but is generally suitable for wheelchairs. There are picnic tables and benches on the site.

Formerly known as the Simpson balancing reservoir, Ashland Lakes were formed in 2006 to provide a more attractive and interesting area of parkland for the adjoining housing development. The site is made up from a chain of connected lakes and features an ornamental pond with a fountain. Towards the Western end of the park is the Log Wave sculpture. At 120 metres long it is currently the longest piece of public art in Milton Keynes.

In 1805 the Grand Unicon canal from London to Braunston opened, passing through Fenny Stratford. To overcome a local problem during construction a temporary lock was installed here at Fenny Stratford and still remains to this day. There is a pub here namely the Red Lion public house and the lock keeper's house still stands and adds a tad of historic ambience to the place.

Within a stone's throw of the new builds on the outskirts of Milton Keynes, the rich Victorian stained glass of St Lawrence sheds light on one of the greatest medieval treasures in the area - a series of stunning medieval wall paintings. These exquisitely detailed pictures remained hidden behind plaster for 300 years before being rediscovered during a restoration in 1849. The paintings include the Virgin Mary cradling the body of Christ (a Pieta) and St George killing the dragon, despite having lost his head when the ceiling was restored in the fifteenth century as well as a Doom, St Helena and St Eligius and one of only two surviving Warning to Swearers in the country. There are also some interesting memorials.

This park follows the Broughton Brook and it offers local residents an attractive and quiet place to escape into green space within the city.
