The station is designed as a tower station, serving the two intersecting railway lines on two levels. The Halle–Cottbus railway line runs west-east through the lower section of the station, while the Berlin–Dresden railway line crosses it north-south in the upper section of the station on a 5.27 m high[1] crossing structure near the platforms. Each of the two railway lines runs through the station with two tracks and has a platform on each track: Track 1 towards Dresden: 206 m long, 14/30 cm high Track 2 towards Berlin: 310 m long, 28 cm high Track 3 towards Halle (Saale): 305.4 m long, 55 cm high Track 4 towards Cottbus: 303.3 m long, 55 cm high[2] The two- and three-story station building is located on the northwest side of the crossing structure and offers direct access to the platforms for tracks 1 and 3. The area around Dobra was already settled in prehistoric times. A burial ground with burial mounds dating back to approximately 3,000 years ago indicates human settlements in the Bronze Age. The village was first documented in 1422. Dobra probably owes its name to the Sorbian "dobra voda," meaning "good water," and possibly derived from the original stream name. Dobra was once the court seat of the Liebenwerda district. The church square is the focal point of the village. A particularly striking feature is a beautifully carved wooden welcome plaque depicting the village's two former mills.

Dobra's Protestant village church is surrounded by the village's former cemetery, where the last burial took place in 1933. The village church is essentially a late Gothic fieldstone building. The date 1483 can be found in the roof truss of the nave. The upper part of the nave was slightly rebuilt in the 17th century. To the west stands a square wooden tower, which becomes octagonal further up, with a spire and weather vane. It dates from the mid-18th century and was restored in 1992.

In addition to a museum, Doberlug Castle also houses the nature park center of the Niederlausitzer Heidelandschaft Nature Park. The interactive exhibition "erlebnisREICH Naturpark" invites you to search for clues in an abstract landscape in the rooms of the former Cistercian abbey. In order to uncover the secrets of change, clues are collected in twelve themed trails. In the outdoor area of the castle, young guests can discover the landscapes and animals of the nature park on a playground.
