The church was first mentioned in 1409. The choir under the church tower dates from this period. The sacristy with a ribless cross vault was created next to the chancel. The nave, which was raised in 1837 and received a flat ceiling, also dates from that time. The pointed arch windows in the choir, the triumphal arch between the choir with its pointed vault and the nave and the tabernacle on the north wall are late Gothic. The Fürstenweg was used by the dukes of Hildburghausen as a ruler's route to the Schönbrunn hunting lodge until 1826. When resting halfway, the hunters' dogs were tied to the dog tree. Hence the name as explained on the sign.
