The city walls and battlements of Forchtenberg are impressive examples of medieval defensive architecture – and still shape the appearance of the old town today. But beware: some pigeons live in the tower and have left a lot of droppings all over the place. It's not really that nice.

Floral decorations, cobblestones, and small squares invite you to linger – whether in the Amtsgarten (official garden), at the cemetery church, or in one of the cozy restaurants. The old town tells of centuries of life, change, and home – and welcomes its visitors with open doors and quiet charm.

It once served as a prison tower, where minor offenders and thieves were imprisoned—hence its name. With its thick walls, small window, and location near the city wall, it speaks of the jurisprudence and order of bygone times.

The Würzburg Gate is one of Forchtenberg's historic city gates and an impressive example of medieval urban architecture. 🏰🚪 It is located at the eastern entrance to the old town and was once part of the city fortifications that protected Forchtenberg from attacks from Würzburg. With its massive masonry, characteristic round arch, and adjacent half-timbered houses, it still exudes strength and history.
