The "Stairway to Heaven" is an iconic section of the PR1 Vereda do Areeiro hiking trail. It is located between Pico do Areeiro (1,818 m) and Pico Ruivo (1,862 m), the highest point on the island. There are several hiking trails around the reception center. MTB riders will also enjoy themselves here. There are even official enduro trails just for bikers that are marked with signs.

Very early for sunrise and very late for sunset. Parking 800 meters below the summit is free.

Alternative parking lot, as the other one directly at the summit fills up very quickly... it's not too far up to the summit
