The French rule in the Rhineland, which replaced the Chur-Cologne state in 1792, interrupted the jurisdiction in Rheinbach for a short time. When the water level is normal, the stream can be easily crossed using stepping stones. In heavy rain or when the water level is high, the stones are too shallow; it is advisable to take the signposted alternative route of 1.7 km!
