Amazing stretch of beach views out to Pentland hills.

In the ARD series "Classics of World Literature", Tilman Spengler pays tribute to famous writers in one of his film contributions - each lasting a quarter of an hour - and introduces the culturally interested viewer to their literary work. One episode of the series deals with DANIEL DEFOE (1660 to 1731) and the character he invented, ROBINSON CRUSOE, whose name will be far more familiar to many people than that of his literary creator. This monument is dedicated to Alexander Selkirk, the person whose real life fate inspired Defoe to create Crusoe. Great wee cafe just off the beach!

Stunning artwork from Alan Faulds. On his website (https://www.alanfaulds.co.uk/work-archive/2008-2/attachment/malagan-1b), he describes it as "A large piece which took more than a year to make. It is located in my garden. Many different influences from Mexican, Hindu, Baltic, Indian, ancient Greek art are brought together."

Easy to find and spot on the road down to Largo beach. Walking from the beach to the statue takes a couple of minutes.

A Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) located between Shell Bay and Largo Bay, near to the Shell Bay Holiday Park. Featuring beach head saltmarsh with plants such as greater sea-spurrey Spergularia media, sea plantain Plantago maritima, glasswort Salicornia europaea and sea arrowgrass Triglochin maritimum; and calcareous sand dunes supporting herb-rich dune pasture of a type not found elsewhere in Fife.
