9月 2, 2025, Creux de Terre Nature Reserve
The Creux de Terre near Yverdon-les-Bains is an impressive karst sinkhole and also a significant nature reserve. The basin was formed by geological processes in which limestone sank, forming a funnel-shaped basin. Today, the area is home to moist meadows, ponds, small forests, and rich biodiversity. Amphibians such as frogs, toads, and newts find ideal living conditions here. Numerous bird species also breed or rest in the reserve. Walking trails with information panels lead through the basin and explain its geology, flora, and fauna. The Creux de Terre is easily accessible from nearby Yverdon.

This castle is located in a park above the village and dates back to the 11th century. It was renovated in the 15th and 16th centuries. In front of the living area with two round corner turrets there are two heavy square towers with aisles.

The old-fashioned but charming town of Orbe is located on a hill in a meander of the Orbe. From the Place du Marché, decorated by a fountain with a standard bearer (1753), a small street leads to the reformed church from the 15th-16th century (naves with interesting keystones) and further to the terrace of the former castle, which offers a beautiful view of the lower city and the Orbe valley.

The old town, which consists of a lower and an upper part, is really kitschy and beautiful. Small shops, many restaurants, colorful facades and the castle characterize Orbe.

Water controlled but cannot be declared drinkable. It is however consumable, but it depends on the seasons and the weather.

The 12th-century castle became a popular venue for conferences and congresses in the 20th century. Le Corbusier and Albert Einstein are among the most famous guests. Also interesting is the horse museum. It was founded after 1972, the last mounted fighting unit in Europe was abolished.

9月 28, 2019, Canal d’Entreroches
THE CANAL D'ENTREROCHES 1635 1637 The first European attempt to connect the North Sea and the Mediterranean Basin with an inland waterway: Dutch business circles are looking for a link to the South to protect them from the Spanish enemy (Spain, Spanish Netherlands, Franche-Comté) , The concession was approved in 1637 by the Berne authorities. 1638 1648 Construction of the Yverdon-Cossonay section with the help of Dutch, Swiss and French capital. The too expensive connection to Lake Geneva is never created! The canal is about five meters wide, 25 kilometers long and has nine locks or lock groups. In four ports, the goods are shipped. 1648 1828 The barges transport wine (85%), salt (11%), cereals (3%) and some other products for a clientele located between Lyon, Basel and St. Gallen. 1829 The collapse of an aqueduct bridge interrupts shipping, which has been in deficit for several years. It will not be restored. The age of rails has begun: the canal is being replaced for heavy transport by the Morges-Yverdon railway line, which opened in 1855. The passage formed in the natural incision of Entreroches forms a connection between the Rhine Basin (Orbe Plain) and the Rhone Basin (Venoge Plain). This is the highest point of the canal, and here the most important burial and construction works have been done.

You are certainly wondering how such a charming, bucolic fountain can have such a martial name? We'll tell you if you insist, but really if you insist because it's not funny at all. This was at a time when Lausanne still had an army of recruits stationed at the Pontaise barracks (P) and a shooting range (T) at the Plaine de Mauvernay. However, the walking path connecting point P to point T passed precisely through fountain M, on purpose so that the recruits could only quench their thirst with water before going to shoot. Okay, the water was a good idea, but overall this story is not funny. We warned you. Of course it could have, it should have, been called the Fountain of Lovers. And the excess of resentment flows towards the Mediterranean (that’s already it).
