Small pass on the way to Bumthang, road in good condition

From Wangdue in the west, the route is easily accessible by road bike, including the descent down to Gangtey and onward to the plateau. The elevation gain from the bottom to the pass is approximately 2200 meters.

Situated at an altitude of approximately 3,100 meters, the Dochula Pass is one of Bhutan's most scenic and significant mountain passes. Located on the road between Thimphu and Punakha, it offers breathtaking panoramic views of the eastern Himalayas, particularly on clear winter mornings when the snow-capped peaks create a stunning backdrop. One of the Dochula Pass's most prominent landmarks is the Druk Wangyal Chortens – a group of 108 memorial stupas erected under the patronage of Her Majesty the Queen Mother, Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck, to honor the Bhutanese soldiers who lost their lives in the 2003 anti-insurgency operation. The Lawala Pass is a high mountain pass in Bhutan, situated at an altitude of approximately 3,300 meters. It serves as the gateway to the Phobjika Valley and lies on the border of the Bumthang and Mongar districts. The pass is renowned for its stunning views, which on clear days extend to distant, snow-capped peaks. Visitors can hang prayer flags at the pass as a symbolic gesture.

The Kikila Pass is a high mountain pass in central Bhutan, near Jakar in the Bumthang Valley. The pass is a significant point on ancient hiking trails such as the Tharpaling-Kikila Pass Trek and the Trans-Bhutan Trail, and is known for its spiritual and historical importance as well as its breathtaking views, particularly of the Black Mountains. It is accessible by road and therefore makes a good starting or ending point for hikes.

Thrumshingla Pass is a high-altitude mountain pass in Bhutan, considered the second highest motorable pass in the country at 3,750 meters. Connecting the central and eastern regions, it is part of Phrumshingla National Park and lies on the road between the Mongar and Bumthang districts. It offers scenic views of the Himalayas and is a popular destination for tourists, hikers, and birdwatchers.

In December 2003, there was an uprising by separatists who entered Bhutan from Assam. The 108 chortens were built as a memorial to the victory of the Bhutanese troops

A day's stage on the Jomolhari Trek leads over the high mountain pass Bonte La with an altitude of 4,890 m. The ascent usually takes place from Jangothang (4,100 m) and goes past the Tshophu lakes (4,380 m); after crossing the pass, the hike leads south down into the valley of the 'Dhumzo Chhu' and the homestead at 'Soi Yakse' (3,820 m).
