During World War II, the Thyborøn fortress formed a section of the Atlantic Wall on the west coast of Denmark, comprising over 100 bunkers. The fortress is considered one of the largest and most important bunker complexes on the Danish west coast.

From this scenic spot, you can see the Limfjord in all its greatness. Actually, this fjord is huge and extends from Thyborøn Channel on the North Sea to Hals on the Kattegat. It is approximately 180 kilometres long.

Uncomplicated crossing, but on some days only until 6 p.m.! Cards can be paid for at the machine with a credit card.

In the late 1940s, former fisherman Alfred Pedersen and his family moved to Thyborøn, where they owned a plot of land on Klitvej. His wife didn't want to move, so Alfred promised her a house that no one else had—one that people would come from far and wide to see. Poula and Alfred moved in in 1949, and Alfred began decorating the house. It would take him 25 years to finish. The "shell house" is decorated with a large collection of seashells, whelks, and cockles, in all sizes and colors. Local fishermen had caught them in their nets, or they were collected by Alfred and his children on the beach.

For 25 DKK (adults) you can visit the Sneglehuset Museum. It's quite small and consists of two rooms: a room where you can watch a film about the making of Sneglehuset (in Danish or German) and an exhibition room with lots of shell details, which is lovingly designed.

Please check the timetables carefully. Some days, the last ferry is at 6 p.m....
