Tourism A 12.4 km long circular path leads through the nature reserve around Lake Großkayna. There, apart from nature, you can also admire two herds of wild horses and a herd of wild cows. There are also two towers, each with information boards and a picnic table. There are also several information boards around the lake about the Braunsbedra mining area. From Lake Großkayna there are paths to Lake Runstedt and Lake Geiseltal. There is also a sailing club and a surfing club on the north bank. In the eastern part of Lake Großkayna you can sunbathe on several unofficial beaches or swim in the lake.

The lake is partly located in a designated nature reserve.

Wild horses were also introduced here to maintain the landscape. You can also visit two cute observation towers here.

The name Heidesee is derived from the nearby forest area Dölauer Heide, on the southern edge of which the lake lies. After the coal was mined, the mine was closed in 1931. The Heidesee was created due to the rise in groundwater and the flooding of the remaining opencast mine when the mine was closed. I felt like a wine queen today! Had the fantastic view and a good drink all to myself! It was a breathtaking impression! It wasn't until 2000 that the Reifert family started growing wine on the dump. Pioneering work to achieve the highest level of recultivation has been achieved on the former opencast mining site! The drop tastes good and the view is uniquely beautiful. The vineyard is south-facing and has a steep slope of thirty percent. The view of the largest artificial lake in Central Germany can be enjoyed with the fine wine 🍷

A worthwhile excursion destination in every season. In summer for swimming (water green but ok), in winter for drinking mulled wine.

The lake is just as easy to circumnavigate thanks to the Geiseltalsee cycle path network.
