Mecklenburg's thickest beech tree, with a trunk circumference of 8 meters, is dying!

The northern shore of the Plauer See nature reserve is ideal for a bike ride. The route is mostly flat on well-maintained paths and leads through diverse landscapes of meadows, fields, and shady forests. Characteristic features are the wide reed beds and small bays where numerous bird species such as herons, cormorants, and even ospreys can be observed. Magnificent views of the lake, whose tranquil waters glitter in the light, open up again and again. Away from the noise of roads and motorboats, there is a special tranquility here that invites you to pause and enjoy nature up close. In 2023 and 2024 I interrupted my long bike rides here several times for a few swims. Very clear, beautiful water. You can no longer stand at the end of the jetty. Clean water and the bottom is firm and sandy, small climbing plants and no water lilies. One of the most beautiful lakes in the area, I think.

The Shepherd's Beech is a red beech in the municipality of Dobbin-Linstow in the Rostock district. With a trunk circumference of over 8 meters and a height of 23 meters, it is one of the largest known beech trees in the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. This remarkable and special landmark in the field was designated a natural monument in 1987 by a resolution of the Güstrow district council. Here, directly on Lake Obersee, you can enjoy stunning views and observe the numerous bird species. It's a good idea to bring binoculars. Even the sea eagle can sometimes be spotted here. It's a beautiful spot and a great place to rest with a direct view of the lake.

From here you have a beautiful view over Lake Krakow and the NSG Krakower Obersee. You can simply enjoy the view or take the time to observe the numerous water birds more closely.

After the road the path becomes a bit narrow through a piece of forest. later across a field and again in the forest it runs in two lanes.
