The monument to Duke Friedrich the Pious north of the grotto, made by Rudolf Kaplunger around 1788, is a sandstone group surrounded by a decorative wrought-iron fence on a pedestal. According to legend, there are seven boys who once looked after the horses of the Spornitz farmers and played skittles with sausages and balls made of breadcrumbs to pass the time. As punishment, they were turned to stone. When the Spornitz miller used one of the stones for his garden wall, it began to bleed.
