Cool corner for MTB

Ok at dusk and full moon. Otherwise, it's better to bring a lamp for the evening/night. Sturdy shoes are mandatory.

The shooting range in Katharinenholz near Bornim is over 200 years old. It was created from 1810 for the 1st Foot Guards Regiment, but over time more and more units received their rifle training there. Around 1900 there were eight shooting lanes of 300 and 600 meters in length. Because there were always complaints about bullets flying around, the first bullet traps were set up in 1872. In the beginning, these were simple, seven meter high earthen walls. In 1890/1891 the first solid brick bullet traps followed. The shooting range was used until 1960, most recently by the Russians. Linguists can still decipher the names of soldiers on some old beeches. Today, mountain bikers use the facility as a cross track and the walls as ski jumps. (Source: potsdamdiscover.de)

Unfortunately, some trails on the Ziebchenberg have been largely destroyed by motocross riders. The thin layer of vegetation on this sand hill is extremely vulnerable and the usual rules should also be observed when mountain biking. It is sad to see how some "people" behave in nature.

One of the Kleinmachnower landmarks - the Kiebitzberge. Typical Brandenburg gravel sand, wildly overgrown with birch and oak. With its mountainous profile and the many intersecting forest trails, this is a little dream for mountain bikers in the otherwise flat surroundings. It's not for nothing that the German cycling cross championship has been taking place here for years. And in winter you can of course come here with the sledge ... 😉
