very beautiful cliffs, mega photo opportunity

Today, based on a recommendation from komoot, we drove to Gold to check out the cliffs. The view is beautiful, including parts of the island and Heiligenhafen. You can only access the cliffs from above; you're not allowed on the beach there. This means you only see the swallows flying in flocks. But it's not just swallows flying there; there are also thousands of mosquitoes, all along the path. If you want to sit on a bench, it doesn't take long before the mosquitoes swarm around their victims. Cyclists also had swarms of them swarming around their heads. So, the view is beautiful, but we left very quickly.

A beautiful little cliff near Gold on Fehmarn. Sand Martins breed here and the area is therefore closed. But from above you can watch the birds wonderfully, at a respectful distance. There is a lot of activity here during the holiday season.

The city's large holiday park is located in the western part of Heiligenhafen. If you pass this holiday park and follow the path further west along the coast, you will reach the impressive cliffs. This stretch of coast is less suitable for swimming, but if you appreciate unique natural landscapes, you should take a hike along this steep coast and simply enjoy the natural impressions. A beautiful but quite small piece of steep coast, would not have thought that there is something like that on Fehmarn.

Very manageable but with a wonderful berth overlooking the Baltic Sea.

Very nice beach with sand and stones. Dogs allowed, but you should bring drinking water for dogs in warm weather as the sea water contains too much salt. You can watch lots of birds. Binoculars are a good idea.

The roughly 230 hectare natural idyll is characterized by the Baltic Sea beach, the up to two meter high beach ridges with dunes and the lush salt marsh, on which the most sensitive and endangered plants grow. In addition to the breeding birds, around 180 other bird species head for the Graswarder in the cold season. Visitors to the information center can take a tour of the incubated egg of a common gull or even hold a chick in their hands. From the observation tower, visitors have a fantastic view of one of the most beautiful spit coasts in Schleswig-Holstein. Heiligenhafen is a good example of a successful cooperation between tourism and nature conservation. From March to May, more than 40 bird species breed in the nature reserve: greylag geese, shelducks, oystercatchers, avocets and common gulls (around 2,000 pairs in 1993) as well as skylarks and barn swallows. Thousands of sandpipers and Nordic duck species also rest and overwinter here.
