The wedding forest in the municipality of Heidenau has been growing steadily for decades. The first planting took place in 1991 – by couples who were married in 1990. Today, the forest covers approximately 30,000 square meters and now comprises almost 400 trees, including 60 fruit trees in an idyllic orchard.

The Hauenstein marks the meeting point of the former borders of the Tostedt / Amelinghausen / Schneverdingen bailiwicks. The Wümme also flows along here and can be crossed. Benches with tables invite you to rest and rubbish can also be disposed of properly.

I headed for the Vareler Heide on a tour between Hamburg and Bremen in order to avoid the main road as much as possible. I was very positively surprised. There is a lot of heather here, sheep or goats graze here and you can also see historic stables. The path through the heath is a lot of fun to drive because it is narrow and technically feasible. A highlight is the beautifully designed recreation area with a work of art. Here you have a great view over the heath. Conclusion: a must see.
