Here you enter a place steeped in history: finds from prehistoric times prove a settlement as early as the Neolithic Age. The oldest pottery sherds found here date from the 6th and 5th centuries BC. The ramparts on the largest rock of the Helfenstein, with an artificial ditch about 100 meters long from the 12th/13th century, indicate a former high medieval castle.

The path also invites you to take a detour to the gnome church with the legend of the gnome king and his attempt at marriage.

You must have experienced and hiked the circular route laid out more than 60 years ago, which nestles tightly against the southern slope with many turns, alternately through open bush landscape and then again through shady spruce and pine stands.

The juniper heath on Dörnberg is one of the largest in Europe and is maintained through landscape conservation measures. Some Zierenberg farmers have joined together to form a herding community and celebrate the cattle drive up and down every year.

The composition of species in this biotope type is characterized by herbaceous and subshrub plants.
