Unfortunately, the real "love source" has dried up and with it the mysterious effect.

That must be the source of love to start on a hike in the area.

The Bötzsee is a lake approximately four kilometers long and 400 meters wide that extends between the towns of Altlandsberg and Strausberg in the Märkisch-Oderland district of the state of Brandenburg. It is part of the Strausberger and Blumenthal forest and lake area and is in the immediate vicinity of numerous other lakes, such as the Fängersee and Straussee. The southwestern bank of the Bötzsee belongs to the Eggersdorf district of the municipality of Petershagen/Eggersdorf. Here - somewhat hidden and accessible via the Tulpenstrasse junction of Altlandsberger Chaussee - you will also find a beach that is guarded in summer, a rowing boat rental and the “Seeschloss” hotel and café-restaurant, built in 1906. On April 18, 2014, the electric ship “Sunny Manuela” began operating on the Bötzsee with a capacity of 120 people. The main pier is located in front of the “Seeschloss” hotel next to the municipally operated boat rental. On the somewhat steeper eastern shore of the lake is the “Postbruch” recreation, bungalow and residential area, which is part of the town of Strausberg. The “Postbruchhütte” restaurant, built in 1910, was closed in 2005 and converted into a residential building. At the northern end of the Bötzsee are the historic excursion restaurants “Alte Spitzmühle” and “Neue Spitzmühle”, which used to be very popular. Both restaurants have been closed since 2011 and 2014 respectively. From here you can reach the next lake, the Fängersee, after just around 400 meters. The entire Bötzsee is almost entirely surrounded by forest. On its banks there are populations of protected plants such as the wood anemone. There are countless small, “wild” bathing areas on all sides. The circumnavigation of the Bötzsee is possible on a freely accessible riverside path in about two hours on foot. Even old maps show a spring next to the path from the lock to Rüdersdorf, the water from which trickled over the path into the mill pond. In the 1880s, the Woltersdorfer Beautification Association leaned a sandstone wall against the mountain and added a spring pipe, which let the water splash into a basin. August Hannemann wrote the text, which can be read on an iron plaque at the source from 1886, giving it its name: From Märk`s sand I rise brightly As a refreshment drink and a source of love. Built by the Beautification Society in 1886 Later, side wings with sandstone benches were added. These benches, the basin and the plaque with the inscription were replaced with red Swedish granite in 1928. The spring delivered about 120 cbm of water at a temperature of 5 °C in 24 hours. The source of love received a makeover in October 1992. Lime deposits were removed from the granite slab, and the carved motto received new gold lettering. The water gushed from the spring. The quality tests carried out by the beautification association at regular intervals confirmed the best drinking water quality. The source dried up in 2005. The cost-intensive test drillings by a well construction company were unfortunately unsuccessful. That is why the Woltersdorfer Beautification Association decided in March 2008 to set up a plaque at the love source, which ended with the following wording: ...We look at our beloved source and unfortunately have to say: "There was once....." Three citizens of Woltersdorf (Ms. Elssner, Mr. Felte and Dr. Haller) took the initiative and, with a great deal of organizational skill and technical skills, had a drinking water supplying water connection made, which was put into operation on 10/15/2011. The people of Woltersdorf are satisfied with the solution they found and if you just believe in it while drinking, then normal drinking water on “Easter morning” will unfold the same mysterious effect as was said of the real “spring of love”, which unfortunately dried up. The Müggelsee lido offers a large nudist area with a large sunbathing area and a large sandy beach. Admission is free. The Müggelsee is quite shallow, so you have to walk a few meters before you can swim.

Too bad that the source has dried up. But in spite of everything a nice place to visit. There is a drinking water connection where you can replenish your water supply. Opposite is the Liebesquelle restaurant with a beautiful terrace right on the water.

With a lot of organizational skill and also manual skills, a drinking water dispensing water connection was established, which was put into operation on October 15, 2011.

From the S-Bhf. Hegermühle can be easily reached after a short hike through the forest. The lake is on the 66 lakes hiking route and on the Way of St. James in Poland.
