The Garzau Pyramid is the largest fieldstone pyramid in Germany. It is located in Garzau, a district of the municipality of Garzau-Garzin. The pyramid is part of an overall complex consisting of Garzau Castle and the associated landscape park. Friedrich Wilhelm Carl Graf von Schmettau laid out the park in 1779. The pyramid was built in 1784 and was originally intended to serve as a mausoleum for the count. However, he sold the property in 1802. In 1911, the Garzau manor house burned down. While the castle was being rebuilt, the pyramid fell into disrepair. Because of its appearance, the building was called the "knight's castle" in the village. It was not rediscovered until 1999. A year later, a support association was founded, uncovered the building and rebuilt it between 2000 and 2010, mainly using its own resources. The interior is now largely in its original condition. Unfortunately, the real "love source" has dried up and with it the mysterious effect.

That must be the source of love to start on a hike in the area.

Really nice resting place, which we also used for a picnic. You always have the pyramid in view and you can watch as people from all generations "climb" the top of the pyramid despite the prohibition (the prohibition signs were probably put up primarily as protection in the event of damage).

📍 Favorite place: The Erpetal nature reserve is already in Brandenburg, borders on the south-east of Berlin and is perfect for off-road cycling and hiking. It is green and a bit swampy, partly crossed by willows. The small Erpe, partly reinforced on the banks with wooden trunks, flows between gardens until it reaches a wide valley with meadows. Many birds live here in the pools and ponds around the Erpe. Cattle also graze here. The ground is a bit more uncomfortable, often full of holes, sandy or muddy. Wide tires with little pressure are definitely an advantage. Nevertheless, it is worth visiting this place on the city limits: be it for a more challenging bike ride, to observe animals or simply to relax. How diverse Berlin and the surrounding area can be. On weekends when the weather is good, however, there is a lot of activity here.
