The Morasco dam is an artificial dam that originates the lake of the same name located in the upper Val Formazza, with a surface at an altitude of 1815 m above sea level. The dam was created in the 1930s by the Edison company to generate electricity for the valley by submerging the town of Morasco, a town of Walser origin inhabited since the 15th century. Morasco was the main inhabited center of the valley at the time of the construction of the dam and was now uninhabited in the winter months but was instead populated in the summer months corresponding to the mountain pasture period at high altitude. The dam is 564 meters long and 55 meters high. It has a maximum capacity of 18,400,000 m3 of water, of which 17,000,000 are actually usable.
